Many residents of Nursing facilities possess hidden talents in photography; flower arranging; painting; pottery; arts and crafts; crochet; etc.. Such fortes and flairs should not go to waist.

Not meant to compete with the "activities" department - "Creative therapy" (as I call it) would be a combination of occupational therapy and "creative" use of a resident's time and talents - the program would be self-supporting; it would include the service of a gift shop, whereby loved ones of residents and visitors could purchase items that were made and signed by the residents

Projects could include oil or water painting, model building, pencil drawing, paper cutting, paper folding, knitting, crocheting, leather craft, woodcrafts, metal working, glass etching, pottery, scrapbooking, card making, book making, enameling, paper making and working, straw hat decorating, painting planter pots, wreath decorating, cake decorating, flower arranging, card making with rubber stamps, quilt block cutting, soap carving, silhouettes, shadow boxes, paper heart chains, paper chains, finger painting, salt painting, bottle painting, coin and stamp collecting, or an endless myriad of other things.

The program would enhance the resident's feeling of self-worth and the visitors would benefit by being able to decorate their home with crafts made by their family, or friends. The owners of the facility would benefit by not having to shell out a lot of money to support the program.

Fifty percent of the proceeds would be given to the residents who created the items (which can be very gratifying considering the measly "allowance" they get every month); the other fifty percent would go back into the program.
